Launch Your Career with Ample Support

Our graduates start their careers across industries, and many pursue further education. We’re here to help you succeed in your path with career coaching and more.

Meet Your Career Coaches

Canfield BHP students have access to a dedicated career coach over their four years in the program. Your first semester includes a class taught by your career coach that introduces you to the various business majors, and techniques and tips that will help you succeed in college and beyond.

Asha Sowell

Asha Sowell is a Northern California (Bay Area) native and two-time graduate of The University of Alabama. As an undergraduate student, Asha majored in public relations, minored in business management. Two years later, she earned her master’s degree from the Sport Hospitality Management Graduate program while working full-time as the Recruiting Operations Coordinator for The University of Alabama Football Department, which was her first dream job after college! Prior to fulfilling the full-time role, Asha served as an undergraduate student recruiter for the university’s prospective students and student-athletes for two years. During her time with Alabama Football, she assisted the program in securing three consecutive #1 recruiting classes (2014 – 2016) as a primary point of contact for more than 1000 recruits and VIP guests per year, year-round. After that, she transitioned into the nonprofit sector to continue pursuing more of her career dreams as a youth development practitioner and mentorship program facilitator for multiple youth development organizations, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama, as well as local elementary, middle and high schools, where she managed several community outreach events, college and community partnerships and student success programs in the Tuscaloosa area.

Asha Sowell brings more than seven years of higher education experience to McCombs and previously fulfilled various career services roles for multiple career centers at the University of Houston before moving to Austin. What Asha enjoys most about living in Austin is getting to help students with diverse backgrounds and interests find career clarity and happiness!

Amanda is a life-long Texan. She is from the Houston area but considers Central Texas home. After moving to Austin in 2010 to attend UT, she earned a BBA from the McCombs School of Business. Upon graduation, she worked at Dell before realizing she had a calling for service-oriented work which led her to pursue a career in higher education. For the past five years, Amanda has been working with business students one-on-one and in the classroom in the areas of academic and career advising – first at Texas State University and now here at UT-Austin. In May 2023, she will be wrapping up a graduate program in Workforce & Leadership Studies. Outside of work and school, Amanda enjoys live music, watching softball, and exploring new places with her partner Jade and their pup, Hagrid. Amanda is thrilled to be a part of the McCombs ecosystem once again, and she can’t wait to meet you!
