Subiendo: The Academy for Rising Leaders
This intensive summer program brings together high school seniors for an unforgettable leadership development experience and seeks dynamic individuals to serve as facilitators and mentors this summer in the following positions.

Time Commitment
Must attend all Team Leader training days scheduled in June 2022. Must remain on campus 24/7 during the Academy. If you are taking summer classes, you WILL NOT be able to attend them during the Academy. -

BECOME A TEAM LEADER
Team Leader
NOTE: Applicants must be a current college student, or a recent May graduate. Strong preference will be given to juniors/seniors.
Team Leaders are responsible for providing the best experience possible for all participants of the program. The Team Leader must be able to interact with and supervise a group (6-7) of students through all activities, including the group project, which will be presented toward the end of the academy.
Responsibilities
- Provide supervision by ensuring the safety and well-being of your team.
- Facilitate small group discussions, briefings, and simulations.
- Accompany your assigned group on all outings and prepare students for the day’s activities.
- Call accepted students to welcome them to Subiendo.
- Mentor participants for the year following Subiendo via social media platforms.
- Be knowledgeable of all program rules and regulations, as provided during trainings.
- Perform other duties as determined by the program leadership.
- Enforce a code of conduct among the members of your group.
Assistant Team Leader
NOTE: Assistant Team Leaders must have participated in a previous year's Subiendo Academy.
Assistant Team Leaders are responsible for providing logistical conference assistance to the Subiendo Academy Staff, Executive Team Leaders and Team Leaders during the Academy. This position will assist in all matters necessary to provide the best experience possible for all participants, including but not limited to, helping greet guest speakers & welcoming parents and students.
Responsibilities
- Assist Team Leaders with supervision of students.
- Mentor participants for the year following Subiendo via social media platforms.
- Provide insight of your Subiendo experience with the participants.
- Accompany group on all outings.
- Assist Executive Team Leaders in preparing students for each day’s activities.
- Provide on the ground support in welcoming guest speakers, volunteers, and parents.
- Be knowledgeable of all program rules and regulations, as provided during trainings.
- Perform other duties as determined by the program leadership.
Executive Team Leader
NOTE: Qualified applicants must be recent undergraduates or current graduate students.
Executive Team Leaders are the liaison between Subiendo staff and the 20 Team Leaders, who are all undergraduates in a variety of majors. This position provides on‐the‐ground leadership at the Academy, while managing Team Leaders and participants. This is a fast‐paced position requiring quick‐thinking, crisis management, and ability to handle stress well.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning Subiendo Academy and coordinating logistics.
- Correspondence with accepted students, parents and other parties as necessary.
- Respectful and courteous to team leaders while providing leadership.
- Facilitate training of Team Leaders in project based learning curriculum.
- Supervise Team Leaders during Subiendo, help manage issues that arise and ensure groups meet benchmarks.
- Accompany groups on all outings.
- Be knowledgeable of all program rules and regulations; ensure team leaders are properly trained.
- Responsible for providing the best experience possible for all program participants.
Social Media Manager
NOTE: The SMM works closely with Subiendo Academy Staff.
The Social Media Manager (SMM) develops awareness and engagement about the Academy and its activities prior to and during the Subiendo Academy using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and the Subiendo Connection Blog. The SMM is responsible for generating an online relationship with participants and speakers at the program, as well as giving prominence to sponsors of the program. This is a fast-paced position, and time at the Academy should be spent planning social media efforts, networking, and posting to accounts. The ideal SMM will be highly motivated and have a passion for content strategy, blogging, micro-blogging and should strive for community participation.
Responsibilities
- Use multiple social media platforms to promote programming simultaneously.
- Be able to work independently with little supervision.
- Post to social media outlets using correct grammar and spelling, and in a professional manner.
- Recognize and encourage students to recognize sponsors of the program on social media.
- Present on appropriate social media usage to students during orientation.
- Help students set up social media accounts on tablets.
- Monitor student social media trends and posts during the program and speak with students whose posts are offensive or inappropriate.
Requirements for All Positions
- High energy, motivated team player with positive attitude.
- Be a positive role model for the participants.
- Be able to adapt to quickly changing situations.
- A proficiency in working with high school students.
- Coaching, tutoring, and/or mentoring experience highly desirable.
- Ability to solve problems.
- Ability to convey ideas well to others.
- Reside in a campus dormitory during Academy.
