The Evolution of Wealth

The wealth management industry is rapidly evolving in response to changing demographics, technology, investment in innovation, and increasing demand for financial planning advice and services. An estimated 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 each day, and they face a $4.1 trillion “retirement gap.” The demand for financial planning services is increasing, and the industry is evolving to fill this need.

The financial planning landscape is getting more complicated due to tax changes, regulation, asset complexity, and the demand for alternative asset classes. Registered investment advisors would like to hire students with both quantitative and “soft” interpersonal skills.

There is a critical need for increased communication between academic researchers exploring wealth management solutions and industry professionals. Applying state-of-the-art academic research to such concerns could revolutionize the Wealth Management industry.

According to RIA Intel, “by 2023, the US wealth management industry is projected to lose a greater percentage of its workforce than the beleaguered coal mining industry, a dwindling part of the American economy.” Here is the story of how a UT alumnus and the University are coming to the rescue.
