Community & Collaboration
Cohort Experience
Cohort Experience
The collaborative and engaged student culture of the MBA program at Texas McCombs is by design. Before your first day, you’ll be placed into a Cohort –a group of MBA peers with whom you’ll navigate the curriculum. The cohort model fosters a shared experience among students and open dialogue within the classroom.
Study Teams
Study Teams
Within your cohort, you’ll be matched up with a Study Team of 4 to 6 other students in your first year, each of whom bring different backgrounds and strengths to the group. You’ll work together and learn from each other as you tackle class assignments and business challenges.
1ST SEMESTER RESIDENCY
Bonding with your classmates is an invaluable part of the MBA experience. That’s why the program includes a Residency component, in which you’ll stay in Houston at Hotel ZaZa on class weekends during the first semester. The Residency cuts down on commute time, fosters a more immersive environment, and creates additional networking opportunities for students and faculty.
Student Organizations

Student-led clubs and organizations give you the opportunity to build your network, expand your leadership skills, learn about a new career path, and make an impact on your classmates. Learn about the current MBA at Houston Clubs & Organizations below.

CleanTech club

The CleanTech club strives to expose students to current developments in renewable, energy efficiency, and clean technology industries. We aspire to educate students about professional opportunities and expose them to industry leaders. The club represents a great opportunity to expand your network within the cleantech industry, meet other UT students who share similar interests, and learn more about the latest industry trends & leading organizations.

Consulting club

The Consulting Club’s mission is to connect and support classmates who share an interest in consulting careers (a student does not have to be currently employed as a consultant to join). It provides a platform for understanding the consulting career lifestyle through panel discussions and the alumni network within management consulting firms. The group also hosts company info sessions and provides opportunities for case interview preparation.

Entrepreneurship Club

The Entrepreneurship Club welcomes all budding entrepreneurs, those working in startups, and those interested in investing in startups. Club activities include the creation of business plans, brainstorming ideas, creation of special interest groups and inviting key speakers who have started or funded small businesses to provide their perspectives. The club’s focus is to provide valuable knowledge in succeeding in today’s entrepreneurial world as well as a supportive network of like-minded people. Every idea, big or small, is always welcome.

Investment Club

The Investment Club was incorporated in 2011 as a Texas LP named the Bevo Capital Group. Members contribute monthly to the general funds of the company which formulates and executes investments and trading strategies according to approved proposals. Members are encouraged to collaborate and share their insight and knowledge on multiple industries and market sectors. In addition to core investment strategies, the club focuses on trading strategies including protective stops, hedging, and complex option spreads. The club is intended to provide members with a deep and meaningful experience in trading and investment which will be valuable in future personal and professional market endeavors.

Graduate business council

The Graduate Business Council (GBC) provides a forum for student leaders to work directly with program leadership to oversee the development, improvement, and maintenance of a strong sense of community and pride within the Houston MBA program. Additionally, the GBC serves to promote diversity and inclusivity within the Texas MBA programs. The GBC should cultivate the values of community, philanthropy, and legacy. The GBC is the student government for all students enrolled in the MBA at Houston program.

Graduate Women in Business

Graduate Women in Business (GWiB) strives to provide an atmosphere conducive to the professional and personal development of its members. GWIB’s goals include: improving the visibility of women in the McCombs School of Business, offering career development resources to its members, providing opportunities for its members to enhance the skills they need to remain competitive in the marketplace, connecting members to news stories and articles related to women’s issues in the workplace, acting as an informational resource for prospective McCombs students, and promoting a spirit of camaraderie among our members and women in the business community in a variety of social settings and events.

McCombs Ambassador Committee

The McCombs Ambassador Committee (MAC) plays a vital role in providing the admissions staff with a student perspective on the MBA admissions process. MAC members participate in many aspects of MBA admissions including planning and attending recruiting events and serving as a point of contact for prospective applicants. As current students who were recently in your shoes, MAC members are a source of insight into the program for you as a prospective student, and a source of constant feedback for our admissions office to ensure we are addressing your needs as potential applicants and future Texas McCombs MBAs.

EQUAL MBAs

EQUAL MBAs is a social and career networking group for MBAs who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, questioning, or just a friend or supporter of the LGBTQ community. EQUAL MBAs works to promote awareness of the LGBTQ community among current and prospective students at McCombs and to keep affiliated alumni connected to the organization. Additionally, the group provides its members with networking opportunities with companies that seek to recruit LGBTQ employees.

Chris Stafford Reignites LGBTQ+ Student Org

I know how important it is for community engagement and representation both internally and externally.
