In programs throughout the school, our students are studying with researchers to shape the industry and make an impact.

          Master of Science in Finance

MS students studying finance may choose a spring curriculum path in Energy Finance. Course options within this path include Intermediate Accounting, Portfolio Management, Energy Technologies, Advanced Modeling and Valuation, and Quantitative Trading Strategies (for energy traders) or Advanced Accounting (for Energy IB).

This curriculum prepares these students to work in a specialized finance role in energy post-graduation.

Master of Business Administration in Energy Finance

The MBA concentration in energy finance prepares students to understand, quantify, monitor, and manage the financial risks created by volatile energy prices and to participate in the evaluation of energy projects and energy derivatives.

Energy finance courses address valuing of financial contracts, derivative securities, financing decisions, business valuation, mergers/acquisitions, and hedging and risk management strategies.

Students also participate in professional seminars on the “physical” side of the energy business to provide backgrounds on topics such as energy exploration, production, and distribution.

Energy professionals play an important role in student development as they assist with these seminars and participate in class sessions on major energy finance issues.

Master of Business Administration in CleanTech

The MBA concentration in clean technology prepares students for a career in renewable energy, energy efficiency and emissions abatement. These students have excellent business skills coupled with a solid understanding of the technology and policy aspects affecting their industry, as well as project and risk management skills.

Students also connect with Austin’s booming clean technology industry through the Clean Energy Incubator and a variety of on- and off-campus opportunities.
